Because armed pilots want to shoot everyone and everything.
I think it's safe to say ABC News is a willing sockpuppet for the anti-gun camp.
You know what that means, don't you, ABC News?
Means the anti-gun camp sticks its hand up your ass and makes you talk.
And here's a similar headline from the Daily Mail: Pilot's gun goes off in cockpit during packed Easter flight.
Notice the inclusion of "packed Easter flight." They're making you think of families, children, and small babies. Add "guns" to that mix and people will surely die. In midflight.
Both articles report no one was injured in the incident yet add their own scary bits.
ABC News notes
The round was discharged by the pilot in the left seat and did not result in depressurization...Because we all know that depressurization equals an entire wall of the cabin exploding open into bright blue sky 50,000 feet overhead.
Like in the movies.
And movies equal reality.
The Daily Mail says
Authorities in the United States have launched an immediate inquiry into the potentially disastrous incident.Potentially disastrous incident.
Again, visions of one pistol round causing an explosion and the gaping hole that results sucking out passengers like a hungry airborne vacuum cleaner.
Are you people idiots?
(...yes...)

Of course the first thing they got wrong was "accidental". But they have to say that to make it the gun's fault, instead of saying "negligent" which puts the blame squarely in the officer's hands, right where it ought to be.
