On it are the words:"He would have lit a candle against the darkness of gun violence."Yet Adam Winkler, author of the book Gunfight* notes that
King kept firearms for self-protection. In fact, he even applied for a permit to carry a concealed weapon.Reason.com's Damon Root agrees:
There’s nothing unusual about this. Many civil rights activists—including those who publicly engaged in non-violent forms of resistance—kept guns for self-defense.But the Brady Campaign wants you to think otherwise with this nice little banner graphic of theirs.
They want you to think that King wouldn't have anything to do with guns.
This is called "intentionally misleading."
And that's simply fucked up.

Everyone should remember that Mohandas Gandhi excoriated the British for their disarmament of the Indians and the Dalai Lama agrees with self-defense with a firearm. So, I'm in good company.
The anti-firearm advocates seem to always forget these little truths.
The so-called "advertisement" with MLK is blatantly misleading. All they have are lies and a desire to disarm you so you are a vulnerable serf, that is easily controlled.
The anti-firearm advocates seem to always forget these little truths.
And that's the key for them.
Twisting things so it appears in their favor.
And we need to expose it and stop it.
You're doing a great job, Ace!
Keep on exposing them (although the mental image of Joan Peterson might require some brain bleach).
And when challenged on that historical point of fact, "gun control" extremists (*cough*Joan*cough*) break out the "self-defense for me but not thee" argument by pointing out that MLK had verifiable threats against his person, and thus he had a "reason" for requesting a carry permit.
Yes, because all criminals announce their intentions months before attacking you...

This is the bit that always makes me shake my head--the belief that somehow, law breakers will play by society's rules.
Which has no bearing on current reality.
And yet they fervently believe it.
That, I can't get my head around.
